Typo Plugin: Recently

April 22nd, 2006

Here’s a tiny little plugin that I wrote for Typo called “Recently”. All it does is display the most recently published articles in your sidebar. For a good example, go to Becoming a Midwife.

Download the Recently plugin (gzip)

Download the Recently plugin (zip)

Instructions

Download the file and unzip it into ./components/plugins/sidebars of your Typo installation. Then restart your Typo server. Log in to your admin area, go to your Sidebar tab, and you should see “Recently” under the Available Items column. Just drag it over to the Active Sidebar Items column, Publish changes, and you’re good to go.

Looks good Ryan......Is this blog run off of Typo?
  2. Ryan Says:
Thanks Dennis - Yep, this blog runs Typo. I like Typo because it gives me the flexibility I need to play around with things and change them here and there. It's also a great platform for learning Ruby on Rails.

Interesting, I am on Wordpress. I am wanting to create my own design but just cant get any inspiration. I have a few things going in Photoshop. I am trying to design from there but I am really stuck because I dont know how to turn that Photoshop creation into a site. Do you know of any good tutorials that show that?

Ryan, I just wrote almost the exact code for my Typo Blog Reboot. It's not for the sidebar, but for use elsewhere. I just thought it was funny I wrote this and now read about your plugin here. Great job!

*Robert* - cool! Yeah it seems to be a pretty useful little feature. Maybe we should submit a patch to the Typo team. You said yours is not for the sidebar - where else are you using it? Which reminds me of one of my wishes for a future version of Typo: multiple sidebars. *Dennis* - I'm sorry, but I don't know of too many tutorials on how to slice up Photoshop sketches into a CSS-based web page. Maybe this is an opportunity for somebody! My general rule of thumb is to extract as little as possible from a photoshop design. I try to get the smallest possible slice of graphics for backgrounds, textures, etc., and think of my CSS/HTML document in terms of layers. In other words, how *little* of this photoshop file do I have to use in order to make it look the way I want. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful on this. There are some discussions on similar topics over at the "Godbit forum":http://godbit.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=553 - search for "Photoshop". Also try googling for "photoshop CSS":http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=photoshop+css&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8 or "photoshop XHTML CSS":http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=photoshop+XHTML+CSS&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8.

    *Update* - here's a pretty good Photoshop/CSS tutorial: http://www.purephotoshop.com/article/109

*Ryan* : I am using it below my articles, but above the footer, similar to what you have going here. Multiple sidebars would be awesome! A patch isn't a bad idea. :)
  8. Robert Says:
And hey, when are you moving to Texas??
  9. Ryan Says:
Soon... soon. Actually our official move date is May 20, which is... next month! Yikes! How's your move going? Getting down to the wire, huh?
  10. Robert Says:
Yeah, moving on Saturday and Sunday. We are only moving 1 hour and 30 minutes away so not as tough as your move will be. I don't think I am going to be able to make the Reboot by Monday. Oh well.
